These now immortal words were written more than 500 years ago by William Shakespeare. Although they represent one of the earliest recorded lawyer jokes, these words certainly haven’t been the last critical commentary on the legal profession. We have all heard (and laughed at) them –– jokes lamenting exorbitant rates, inattentive service, questionable ethics, and of course bungled matters. It’s a sad fact that these clichés are not always entirely without merit and indeed come with a kernel of truth.
